The most elegant dinnerware

In 1765 a white substance was found in St Yrieixin near Limoges in France. This substance would be the making of a very successful industry of porcelain making in Limoges. Although initially thought to be a form of soap, upon examination the substance was identified as kaolin which was the essential ingredient in Porcelain. This has made Limoges extremely prominent in porcelain production with the first porcelain production factory being built there in 1771.

With production and labour cost being so high in Paris, several porcelain factories were relocated to Limoges. Limoges porcelain then became very popular with royalty, heads of state and grand families as they were able to engrave the porcelain with their initials or coats of arms. Eventually Limoges became the French capital of porcelain production with 80% of it being exported.
